Spear Fishing

  • Just like the free-diving adventures, the spearfishing experiences are world class. With 100-metre coral drop offs just out the front of Driftwood, your spearfishing adventure can begin right at our doorstep, where you will be fishing in one of the most pristine ocean environments on earth.

  • LOCAL SITES

    Bullo Island, just 5 minutes from Driftwood, offers vertical drop-offs into the abyss. With underwater cave dives that meet rainforests and breathtaking coral garden, this local sites offer an incredible experience, similar to the Mexican Cenotes. 

    Male Male offers excellent vertical wall diving and has many hot-spots for marine life interactions. 

    Minjanga Island is perfect those keen to take their diving to the next level and experience new terrains underwater. Another site offering amazing vertical wall diving with towering cliffs above the water and gentle currents to drift along the walls for relaxing breath-ups while exploring along the island. 

    Inside the entrance of the lagoon, there are many breathtaking spots to explore. 

    FUTHER SITES

    Kavachi promises an awe-inspiring experience thanks to the nearby Kavachi Submarine Volcano.  When it is active, its rumblings can be heard all the way from the serene shores of Kitcha Point.

    Matakai is a seamount approximately 1-hour from Driftwood out in the ocean. With spectacular marine-life, it offers kilometres of drift-diving. 

    Mantas, located inside the lagoon, gather at a local cleaning station where guests can interact and watch their beautiful ocean dance. 

    FADs - There are also two Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs) at depths ranging from 1000 to 2000 meters within a 12-nautical-mile radius of Driftwood, and 2 more on the way to  Matakai seamount. FADS is the ultimate ‘real-deep-blue’ experience for seasoned divers comfortable with bottomless water and curious Silky sharks. With five FADs ranging from 1000 to 2000 meters (3300 to 6600 feet) depth, from 10 to 16 nautical miles offshore from Driftwood, well-versed underwater adventurers can delve into the abyss, encountering an unparalleled realm of marine wonders and untamed oceanic beauty.

    Catch-of-the-day can include a variety of tropical species such as Spanish Mackerel, Job Fish, Marlin, Mouri Sea Perch, Longnose Emperor, Dogtooth Tuna, and Yellowfin Tuna—just about every tropical species that serious fishermen pursue around the world.

    Other species include Skipjack Tuna, Bigeye Tuna, Wahoo, Mahi Mahi, a variety of Trevally species, three Barracuda species, Rainbow Runner, Red Bass, Green Jobfish, Sharks, Sailfish, numerous Coral Trout (Grouper) species, Blue, Black, and Striped Marlin, as well as many other species found around the islands just offshore.

Line Fishing

  • This is an all year-round fishery. Pelagics and GT casting action is generally hottest April through November. Mid-April to mid-June and early-October to late-November are generally the best weather windows (this close to the equator climate is highly variable) within that period for offshore action, and Whitewater GT work. With hotspots at Driftwoods doorstop, to epic locations only 10-minutes away, the line fishing experience is world class. 

  • We troll and explore several Bluewater FADs, Matikaisea Mount, and Kavachi underwater volcano for Spanish Macs, Wahoo, Mahi-Mahi, big Yellowfin Tuna, Sailfish Blue Marlin Coral Trout. The Solomon’s has the some of the most intact tuna stocks on earth and gamefish numbers are commensurate with this food supply. 

    Other unique deepwater species include; Long-Tail Snapper, Blue, Papuan, and Bigeye 

    Trevally, Queenfish, and Coral Trout. Explore the thousands of acres of sand and coral flats of Marovo Lagoon and countless deep drop locations for Flam tales, Ruby Snapper job fish and many other deeps sea fish and who knows what else is out there!

  • Kitcha Nature Reserve and Marine Park is a pristine island protected from fishing. It is a perfect island for snorkelling, free diving and picnics with its white sandy beach and iconic tropical island chill vibes.

    Biche Village was the first village settled on the ocean after head hunting was stopped in the early 1900s. It is a remote village with fascinating culture, breathtaking scenery, and a local community living in symbiosis with the native eels which inhabit the fresh water stream with comes down from the waterfall into the ocean. Visiting Biche Village incurs a $20 AUD entry fee, supporting the village and its community.

    Village Walks are a popular activity on Sabbath (every Saturday) as this is respected locally as a day of rest.

  • WOOD CARVING + BASKET WEAVING
    In the Solomon Islands, the tradition of wood carving is a deeply rooted art form that showcases the island's rich cultural heritage. Master carvers use age-old techniques to create intricate designs and symbolic motifs on wood, often depicting ancestral stories, spiritual beliefs, and local legends. Each piece, whether it's a ceremonial mask, a totem pole, or a functional object, is meticulously crafted using tools passed down through generations.

    Guests are welcome to join the local women o learn traditional basket weaving or carve something of their own, with the chance to purchase unique hand-crafted pieces directly from the local community. (Note, more advanced, paid basket weaving classes can be arranged at an additional fee.)

    COOKING
    Our newly-built kitchen has been purposely designed to accommodate guests who love cooking and eating. Featuring a large functional bench top and modern four-burner cooker, this space is the ideal setting for socialising with friends over our local fresh food. 

    Guests are welcome to take charge of the kitchen and show off their master culinary skills! Just speak to our team about the fresh ingredients you require, and they will do their best to have stock of just what you need.

  • Children are such a vibrant part of the Driftwood community. Families are wholeheartedly welcomed, with little ones splashing in crystal-clear lagoons and playing alongside local kids, while older explorers dive into vibrant coral reefs and embrace thrilling water activities like canoeing, snorkeling, and swimming. Here, every day is an opportunity for your family to connect with nature and each other in an unforgettable, action-packed setting.
